A lot of backyards sit unused - just a patch of grass or bare dirt with nothing to offer. No real place to sit, no defined space, nothing that invites you to actually spend time out there. That's exactly the kind of problem a well-built patio solves.

What we worked with here was a backyard that needed structure. The homeowners wanted a real outdoor space - something solid, clean, and big enough for the whole family to use. So we got to work laying out a large paver patio that would check all those boxes.

The pavers are laid in a mixed running bond pattern using large-format concrete pavers in a neutral gray tone. The pattern adds visual texture without being busy, and the color works with just about any outdoor furniture or landscaping. The curved front edge is one of the details we're proud of here - it softens the whole look and makes the patio feel intentional rather than just a big rectangle dropped in the yard.

Good paver work isn't just about how it looks on day one. The base prep underneath is what determines whether a patio holds up for years or starts shifting and settling. That gravel base layer you can see bordering the patio is part of that foundation work - proper drainage and a stable sub-base are what keep everything in place season after season.

The result is a patio that genuinely extends this family's living space. It connects directly to the back of the house, runs edge to edge with room to spare, and gives them a place to actually use their backyard. That's what a good patio is supposed to do.
